Taylor Lautner would like to go back to December—or at least, the time he and his wife Tay Lautner got to hang out with Taylor Swift.
After all, according to the Twilight alum, it was "one of the coolest experiences" introducing Tay to her idol—while filming Swift's recent "I Can See You" music video—even if the singer just so happens to be an ex-girlfriend of his.
"I know on paper, it sounds like a tough situation, but I not once was ever worried about it," Lautner recalled of the encounter during the July 19 episode of his and Tay's The Squeeze podcast. "We're just confident in our relationship. [My wife] is the coolest, chillest person ever. She also is a diehard fan of that person."
Referring to Swift as "blonde girl Tay," Lautner called her "the sweetest human being on Earth."
The 31-year-old continued, "So, it kind of was just a perfect situation."
And Tay couldn't agree more, sharing that she now considers Swift to be a "friend."
"She's hysterical," the 26-year-old said of the pop star. "It's been so fun to get to know her."
Tay added that it's been far from awkward befriending her husband's ex. "It definitely helps that [Swift] is as nice as she is, and so sweet and so respectful," said the podcast co-host, who married Lautner in 2022. "A laid back vibe is definitely our vibe."
Lautner and Swift, 33, dated for a few months in 2009. They also played high school sweethearts in the 2010 rom-com Valentine's Day.
Though their romance was short-lived, it made quite the impression on Swift and she wrote about relationship in Speak Now track "Back to December." When it came time to release the re-recording of her 2010 album earlier this summer, Swift enlisted Lautner to star in the music video for "I Can See You."
"He was a very positive force in my life when I was making the Speak Now album," she told the crowd at her The Eras Tour on July 7, before inviting Lautner to join her onstage. "He and his wife have become some of my closest friends, and it's very convenient because we all share the same first name."
